March 23, 2015 we woke up at 5:45 AM to get to the hospital to meet my radiation oncologist. Dr. Paul Ossi was very personable, kind and caring. He wanted to hear my understanding of the process so far. He filled in the radiation part of it. It would be 34 treatments. 7 weeks. Monday through Friday. I was concerned about my heart because the treatment would be on my left side. Dr. Ossi said that they use a breathing technique where when you breathe in your heart actually moves closer to your center. That is when the radiation is dosed and then stopped during your exhale.
A new nurse navigator, Susan, sat in. I was going to two different locations of the hospital. Ruby visits the other location.
I had an appointment in six weeks to return after surgery and some healing.
This was a hard visit. I cried walking into the breast unit. I might have been scared, but honestly I believe the reality of having cancer was setting in. This was really happening. My husband, Juan, was so loving and supportive. He allowed me to lean on him through every step of the process.
