I have been blogging for a little over a year now. I mentioned in my profile that I would introduce you to our kitties. We are now empty-nesters, so they are our fur babies in every sense of the word.
So….meet my kitties! We have five!
This is Lilly–our oldest and only female! Lilly turned 12 last year. At the time we only had one other kitty. Juan wanted him to have a companion. He visited PetSmart where Lilly was in what he called “a double-wide” cage. She reached out to him. He sat with her and they became instant buddies. Lilly is a tiny short-hair tabby with beautiful green eyes. She keeps our four male kitties in line.
Lilly’s buddy is Gino. They are best pals. It is a good thing because Gino is so timid.
Gino was adopted from Cat’s Angels here in Jacksonville. He and his foster brother, Riley, were at Petsmart. Juan, Andrew and Kristen fell in love with Riley (who has since passed) and I fell in love with Gino. Gino was timid and shying in the corner of his cage. I had to have him! While I was working at a local spay-neuter clinic, I found out how Gino came by his name. He was rescued from Cedar Key, FL. His rescuers, Cat’s Angels, ordered a pizza in their hotel room. Gino jumped on the bed and stole a slice of pizza! I can’t imagine. He is so shy and skittish of men. He loves children. Gino is a tuxedo cat, also with big green eyes.
Gino is 9 years old.
Diego is our big, black medium-hair kitty with big gold eyes. Diego stole my heart when I was working at First Coast No More Homeless Pets, the spay-neuter clinic.
Diego slept on my desk at work. He would follow me to the break room for my coffee break. He even would jump into my arms. His story is a sad but true one. Someone left him on a shelf in PetSmart. They found him as they were stocking the shelves. He was brought to our clinic where our Program Director pulled him for adoption. Diego is a mess. He loves to eat coffee grinds….yes coffee grinds!! He wakes me up in the morning for a bowl of milk. He nibbles my fingers, bats things around, annoys until I get up! Although an indoor cat, Diego loves to be outside. We have to keep a close eye on him!
Diego is 8 years old.
Pierre also stole my heart at the clinic. I guess you could say that I liked to bring my work home with me!!
Pierre is a rascal. He loves food. We have a program in Jacksonville called Feral Freedom. Pierre lived in a feral colony. The feral cats are trapped, spayed or neutered and released back into the colony. Their left ear is tipped to identify the spayed or neutered cats. Before we were a no-kill city, there was a three strike rule. If the cat was trapped three times, it was put down. Like I said Pierre loves food. Food is placed in the trap to catch the cat. Well, Pierre just wanted the food!! On his third round, our Program Director pulled him for adoption and saved him from being euthanized! He became an office kitty. I saw him and had to bring him home.
I mean look at that face!! He has such unique markings. We called him Beetlejuice at first! Pierre is tiny and all fur. He goes crazy over ham. He is very loving but will fly at the sound of a noise. Pierre is 7 years old.
Finally….we have a GRAND kitty. Yep, Herbert (what a name) came to us by way of Micanopy, FL. Our daughter, Kristen, went to school in Gainesville (Go Gators!!). She adopted Herbert from a family while there. Herbert came to visit on a Christmas break and never went back!
Juan is absolutely smitten with this cat!! He shows so much favoritism for this GRAND!! Herbert is a unique cat…more like a dog. He is very playful. He runs NASCAR around the house making a noise as he goes. He loves to snuggle. He is my pillow pet. He sleeps wrapped around my head.
Herbert has a unique habit for a cat. He likes to drag around items. It started with our son’s flip flops. Yep, size 10s slapping down the stairs. He pulls towels down off the rack and drags them up to our bed. He drags cat beds, beach towels, blankets or socks. Whatever he can find to bring to us as gifts. Herbert is a fluffy black with white paws and belly. Herbert is 5 years old.
I hope you enjoyed spending a little time with our fur babies!
See you in my next blog post!
Happy New Year 2017!
